Where it began

So there I was, a newly retired Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician with a lot of time on my hands and a wife who loves lists! Recognizing my need for a large scale project she asked me,

“Can you build us a dining room table that looks like this?”

In true Lee fashion, I said yes without the first clue about where to begin. Internet searches, conversations with hardwood suppliers, and magazine articles all led me to more and more questions. The only thing I was sure of at the time was that I did not have the knowledge nor the skill to build it, but I wanted it.

Ultimately I found my way to Red Rocks Community College School of Fine Woodworking where I hung around for a few years and learned as much as I could about fine furniture construction and cabinetmaking. It was here that I gained the knowledge I was looking for and also discovered my love for designing and building pieces that are meant to last for generations.

It took 5 more years of practice to get the skills but, that dining room table was finally completed. It is the center of many holiday meals to come with our children, game nights with our friends, and definitely puzzle and lego-building with our grandchildren. It is a piece that will stay in our family forever and serves as a daily reminder of why I do what I do.

I would love the opportunity to build something that brings together function and joy for you and your family. - Lee
